EASY ENGLISH CRUMPETS: STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE to making a Crumpet
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted (or vegetable oil)
Batter
- 1 cup (150g) white flour, plain / all-purpose
- ¾ cup + 1 tbsp (200ml) warm water, tap water
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon white sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
Yeast Mixture
- 1 teaspoon yeast, instant/rapid rise OR dry active yeast
- 1 tablespoon warm water
Cooking
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (or vegetable oil)
- Metal rings
Instructions
1. Place flour, water, and salt in a bowl and whisk for 2 minutes (electric beater 1 minute on
speed 5).
2. Yeast Mixture – Dissolve yeast in 1 tbsp warm water in a small bowl.
3. Add Yeast Mixture, sugar, and baking powder into the bowl, then whisk for 30 seconds (or 15 seconds with a hand mixer).
4. Cover with cling wrap or a plate, then place in a very warm place for 15 to 30 minutes until the surface gets nice and foamy. It will only increase in volume by about 10% – 15%.
